Emergency Supply Kit Checklist

Before the Storm

  • Know your evacuation zone and routes
  • Prepare an emergency supply kit (see below)
  • Secure important documents in waterproof containers
  • Fill your vehicle's gas tank
  • Charge all electronic devices
  • Review your insurance policies
  • Trim trees and secure outdoor furniture
  • Stock up on prescription medications

Emergency Supply Kit

  • Water: 1 gallon per person per day (3-day minimum)
  • Non-perishable food (3-day supply)
  • Battery-powered or hand-crank radio
  • Flashlights and extra batteries
  • First aid kit
  • Whistle to signal for help
  • Dust masks, plastic sheeting, and duct tape
  • Manual can opener
  • Cell phone chargers and backup battery

During the Storm

  • Stay indoors and away from windows
  • Listen to local authorities and weather updates
  • Go to an interior room if winds intensify
  • Do not go outside during the eye of the storm
  • Keep your emergency kit accessible
  • Stay in contact with family members

After the Storm

  • Wait for official all-clear before going outside
  • Watch for downed power lines and flooding
  • Document property damage with photos
  • Contact your insurance company
  • Check on neighbors, especially elderly
  • Boil water until authorities confirm safety
